FMCSA Guidelines
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) provides clear protections for customers. Movers are required to give you the “Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move” handbook before an interstate move. Read the FMCSA guide here.
A binding estimate guarantees the total moving cost based on the services listed.
A non-binding estimate provides an approximate cost that may adjust depending on final weight or services used.
Full Value Protection ensures your mover is liable for the replacement value of lost or damaged items. You may waive it for Released Value Protection, which offers minimal coverage. We’ll review these options with you before the move.
Key documents include:
- Bill of Lading (your official moving contract)
Inventory list of all items being moved
- Estimate and Order for Service outlining charges
Charges are usually collected at delivery, as specified in your Bill of Lading. Federal law prohibits movers from holding your goods hostage for additional, undisclosed fees.
